Internet Computer (ICP) NFTs Growing in Popularity as Master Bot NFT Sells for $172,000

PokedStudio recently auctioned off a range of digital bots on an NFT marketplace, with the highest sale raking in 3,000 ICP.

A UK-based graphic design company called Pokedstudio, recently created a range of 10,000 unique digital bots which were classified as Animal Bot, Battle Bot, Industrial Bot, Food Bot, Game Bot, Wild Bot, Dead Bot, and one ultimate Master Bot, all of which were launched on Nov. 9, 2021. PokedStudio creates illustrations, featuring characters and fantasy worlds.

These bots were created as NFTs that do not use Proof-of-Work’s wasteful energy consumption. They launched on Entrepot, a marketplace for NFTs. Entrepot.app is the first NFT marketplace on the Internet Computer blockchain. One has to connect one’s ICP wallet, called Stoic wallet, to purchase through Entrepot.app. To buy the NFT, one just hits the buy button and follows the prompts. Purchases are contingent on possessing a funded wallet.

Bots have sold for prices ranging from 300 ICP to the latest, most expensive Master Bot selling for 3,000 ICP (approximately $172,140) on November 10. They are sold out at the time of writing. The Bots NFTs are part of Pokedstudio’s first foray into the metaverse.

What is the Internet Computer Blockchain?

Dfinity, founded in 2016 by Dominic Williams, is responsible for the creation of the Internet Computer. The Internet Computer is a digital token that runs on the Internet Computer Protocol (ICP), which allows anyone to build software or publish content on the internet using similar methods to smart contracts. Dfinity’s goal was to reimagine the internet as a de-monopolized entity that hosts secure software. One can mint NFTs on the Internet Computer blockchain. The first NFTs created on the Internet Computer Blockchain was the Insane Clown Posse.

No gas fees on ICB for minting NFTs

According to Dfinity’s Medium blog, in the NFT.NYC conference happened in New York City recently, Dfinity collaborated with Toniq Labs to airdrop 10,000 Motoko NFTs to conference delegates using Stoic wallets on the Internet Computer blockchain. This was a demonstration of the fact that no gas fees are required to mint or buy NFTs while hosting them on a decentralized, public blockchain. Minting non-fungible tokens, or NFTs on Ethereum can cost a lot of gas. Minting an NFT is considered a transaction on Ethereum, and hence incurs a cost. Gas prices are determined by the traffic on the network and the computation power taken to execute a transaction.

If one would like to release one’s own NFTs on the Entrepot marketplace, one needs to complete a form. Entrepot charges a 1% marketplace fee, and creators can charge a royalty fee of a maximum of 2.5%. The Stoic Wallet is a non-custodial wallet means that all assets, including NFTs remain in the holder’s control. Entrepot.app is the first NFT marketplace on the Internet Computer blockchain.
