China Shuts Down Mining Operations in Qinghai and Xinjiang Amid Bitcoin crackdown

More miners are being forced to shut down amid China’s Bitcoin crackdown. The major Bitcoin mining regions in China, Qinghai, and Xinjiang, have pushed miners out of operation. Although Xinjiang has the world’s largest Bitcoin mining hash rate, the National Development and Reform Commission has asked regulators in the region of Changji to close all crypto mining operations.

In addition, the Qinghai Industry and Information Technology Department issued a document to stop the authorities in the region from approving and setting up new crypto mining projects. Also, the Department asked that the province leadership suspend all existing mining operations. The notice says that authorities in the province should investigate big data farms using their facilities to mine Bitcoin. Any data farm guilty would be punished. Companies that provide mining-related services in Qinghai have also been asked to cease operations.

As China continues its Bitcoin crackdown, internet search engine Baidu and microblogging website Weibo have been censored and blocked from crypto exchange searches. As of the 10th of June, search results for BINANCE and Huobi have been blocked on the two platforms.

In the past week, several crypto influencers and other crypto-related pages lost their accounts on Weibo.

At press time, Bitcoin is up 0.37% to $36,917.
