eBay Set to Begin Sale of Non-Fungible Tokens

Ebay Inc. has become the first e-commerce company to allow the sale of non-fungible tokens (NFT) for digital collectibles. The company updated its policy to promote the sales of NFTs on Tuesday.

According to Reuters, the e-commerce giant will only give trusted sellers access to list non-fungible tokens. The company then intends to roll out a number of tools for trading a variety of NFTs on its platform. According to senior vice president, and general manager Jordan Sweetnam.

“In the coming months, eBay will add new capabilities that bring blockchain-driven collectibles to our platform.”

The announcement is happening one week after CEO Jamie Iannone mentioned that the platform intends to explore opportunities to give room for NFTs “in an easy way.” He also said that although sellers and buyers were already dealing NFTs on eBay, the process was complex.

There have been hints in the past about eBay’s receptive position towards crypto payments. Three years ago, a senior vice president of the company mentioned that eBay was “seriously considering” integrating Bitcoin (BTC) as a payment method. U.Today also earlier reported that the CEO recently said that the company has plans to adopt cryptocurrencies as a form of payment in the future.

Many projects that feature NFTs have taken over the crypto space in the last few months, resulting in multimillion-dollar sales of digital artworks. As large online marketplaces like eBay introduce tokens, the NFT sector could keep growing.
