DeAndre Cortez Way, better known by his stage name as Soulja Boy Tell’ Em (or just Soulja Boy), has initiated a Twitter conversation with prominent crypto individuals and hinted that he could explore launching his own digital asset.
Interestingly, the rapper created a song dedicated to Bitcoin in 2018 in which he bragged about “stacking” and making “100 racks” in BTC.
Soulja Boy To Create His Own Crypto?
The Chicago-born rapper, songwriter, record producer, and actor asked the crypto community on Twitter what’s the best way to purchase digital assets in the US.
Being a high-profile name with over five million followers, his question quickly garnered the attention of the industry’s most prominent individuals and companies.
Names such as Changpeng Zhao (Binance CEO) and Tyler Winklevoss (Gemini co-founder), alongside company accounts of OKCoin, Blockchain.com, and eToro, were quick to lure the rapper by advertising their “best-in-class” products.
While the musician promised to explore all platforms, he also went into another direction – “thoughts on me creating my own crypto?”
More recommendations followed, including Jordan Spence, the CEO of MyCrypto, who noted that Soulja Boy should look into creating his unique non-fungible token (NFT).
Nevertheless, the rapper ultimately admitted that he could be out of his comfort zone on this and noted that he has “so many questions.” One of them being “could some bad come from creating a crypto?”
Soulja Boy could follow the footsteps of other colleagues, including Lil Yachty, if he indeed proceeds with releasing his own crypto. The Grammy-nominated musician said in late 2020 that he wants to tokenize himself with his own YachtyCoin.
Soulja Boy’s Famous Bitcoin Song
The Twitter conversation with the crypto representatives was not the rapper’s first industry-related initiative. He’s perhaps best known in the community for his 2018 single named after the primary cryptocurrency – Bitcoin.
In it, Soulja Boy explained vividly how he had a computer and purchased BTC, which made him “so fresh” when he pulled up “new foreigns.” He also advised an unnamed female to leave her boring boyfriend because the rapper was “stacking up bitcoins I got money pouring.”
It’s worth noting that Soulja Boy was not a so-called Bitcoiner. He asserted that he had diversified his portfolio by adding “Litecoins, Bitcoins, they my favorite ones.”
Moreover, the rapper could have also predicted future events. He said that users could send BTC through PayPal, which was actually not possible at the time. The giant payment processor added support for bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies in late 2020.
