Meta’s Llama 3-powered AI assistant rolls out across FB, Insta, and WA

Meta AI assistant, which was introduced last September, is now being integrated into WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook and Messenger. The free artificial intelligence assistant will be able to answer questions, create animations and generate images, according to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

“We believe that Meta AI is now the most intelligent AI assistant that you can freely use,” said Zuckerberg.

The company has integrated real-time knowledge from Google and Bing into the assistant’s answers and made the tool more accessible across its apps by building it into the search boxes on the platforms.

Built on Meta’s latest large language model called Llama 3, the AI assistant is Meta’s rival to ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini.

A separate website called “meta.ai” has been launched to give users direct access to the AI assistant, and it will be able to answer complex math problems, write professional mail, and perform other tasks.

“We’ve integrated our latest models into Meta AI, which we believe is the world’s leading AI assistant. It’s now built with Llama 3 technology and it’s available in more countries across our apps,” said Meta.

One of the world’s leading AI assistants

According to the company, Meta AI is now one of the world’s leading AI assistants that can boost your intelligence and lighten your load, “helping you learn, get things done, create content, and connect to make the most out of every moment.”

Meta said the assistant’s image-generation feature will be available in beta on WhatsApp and the MetaAI website. Users will see an image appear as they start typing and MetaAI will provide prompts to help change or refine the image. The images can also be animated into a GIF that users can share, reported CNBC.

The company is rolling out Meta AI in English in more than a dozen countries outside of the US. Now, people will have access to Meta AI in Australia, Canada, Ghana, Jamaica, Malawi, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Singapore, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

Access through the Facebook feed

Users can take Meta AI’s help in many ways, such as asking Meta AI to recommend a restaurant with sunset views and vegan options, find concerts, explain how hereditary traits work, and so on.

The AI assistant can be accessed through the Facebook feed. If you come across a post you’re interested in, you can ask Meta AI for more info right from the post. “So if you see a photo of the northern lights in Iceland, you can ask Meta AI what time of year is best to check out the aurora borealis.”

The Imagine feature

Using Meta AI’s Imagine feature, users will be able to create images from text in real-time. The feature is rolling out in beta on WhatsApp and the Meta AI web experience in the US.

“You’ll see an image appear as you start typing — and it’ll change with every few letters typed, so you can watch as Meta AI brings your vision to life,” said Meta.

The company said that these updates are specific to Meta AI on Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, and on the web. Meta AI is also available in the US on Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses and is soon coming to Meta Quest.
