Leading metaverse platform The Sandbox is planning to celebrate a landmark 2021 and the launch of its play-to-earn game by rewarding LAND owners with a SAND token airdrop. As of January 2022, The Sandbox counts over 17,000 LAND owners and has distributed over 80 million SAND tokens to the community.
As a further token of their appreciation to those having supported the game over the years and purchased LAND, the team at The Sandbox is starting the new year with a SAND airdrop to LAND holders on the Polygon network. Originally The Sandbox launched its infrastructure on the Ethereum blockchain, but it has now moved to Polygon. Even though many NFTs still exist on Ethereum, the virtual world platform will embrace Polygon more on the road ahead. Currently, a liquidity-providing campaign on Polygon already attracted $127 million in Total Value Locked (TVL), while the pool on Ethereum has a TVL of $44.6 million.
How to get the SAND airdrop
Anyone owning at least one LAND as of December 20th, 2021 at 00:00:00 UTC will be eligible for the reward. The airdrop will thank everyone in the core community with a special shout-out to those with diamond hands. A diamond hand is a term used in the cryptocurrency space to describe an investor able to weather the storms and hold their assets throughout price fluctuations. In this instance, The Sandbox is thanking them for riding out any and all market turbulence and showing belief in The Sandbox. In essence, the earlier a person bought LAND, the more bonus points they get.
Those that purchased a LAND plot during one of the first-ever three presales and then held it until the snapshot on the 20th of December earns the title Diamond Hands.
Then the total score (base score + bonus score) follows the chart below to define which reward a LAND holder will get. As mentioned, as long as you purchased the LAND during one of the presales and were still holding on to that LAND as of December 20th, 2021 at 00:00 AM UTC, you are eligible for the Diamond Hand multiplier on that LAND.
Those with a claim don’t need to do anything at all. SAND will be dropped directly to eligible wallets in the upcoming weeks. Please note this airdrop will be done on Polygon.
The Sandbox goes Layer-2
Following the announcement of a partnership with Polygon, The Sandbox team has been working to complete the switch to the Layer-2 ecosystem. This move to Polygon’s layer 2 will bring users many improvements starting with a dramatic decrease in the amount spent on gas fees during gameplay.
In order to encourage users to move to Polygon, The Sandbox team implemented a new mSAND/MATIC staking pool. The Sandbox received a lot of hype towards the backend of last year as its native SAND token rose relentlessly to new ATHs. Rapper and NFT mogul Snoop Dog announced he would be setting up his mansion and NFT collection in The Sandbox metaverse, where he will also perform live concerts and interact with players.
