Bitcoin’s smart contract-enabling layer-2 solution RSK is organizing a crypto-wallet, dapp and dashboard design competition with prizes over $25.000. Until October 15h developers and designers are challenged to use and create templates, dive into the API docs and learn more about developing on RSK.
The #OneMillionWallets competition is organized by RSK and Covalent, the studio behind the easy to use APIs that connect to the RSK layer-2 solution. Because not everybody likes to use the same tools, this competition calls on the creativity of designers and developers to make their own custom wallets, dapps and dashboards.
What’s nice about this competition is that anybody can join. The team has provided API documentations, code templates and tutorials to help novice developers and designers getting started. Hold up, what is RSK?
RSK is a layer-2 solution on the top of the Bitcoin blockchain, adding value and functionality to the bitcoin ecosystem by introducing smart contracts. In addition, the layer-2 solution adds faster and cheaper payment solutions.
The RSK layer is secured by the same mining infrastructure that keeps the Bitcoin blockchain running. This merged mining system allows bitcoin miners to simultaneously mine RBTC as well. Furthermore, bitcoin or BTC can move into the RSK ecosystem through a proof-of-wkrk secured two-way peg. That BTC gets stored into a smart contract, and the users will then receive RBTC on the RSK layer. Of course the RBTC can also move back to the Bitcoin blockchain as BTC.
Ethereum has positioned itself as the premier blockchain for smart contract development. But scaling problems has giving space to competitors, like Polygon, BINANCE Smart Chain and Avalanche. All of them are compatible with Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), allowing dapp developers to easily support multiple blockchains. Guess what? RSK is also EVM compatible, effectively allowing Ethereum developers to run their dapps with the security of the Bitcoin blockchain.
Adding RSK to Metamask
Getting started with RSK would require you to have a wallet. Because RSK is EVM compatible, we can use the METAMASK browser extension. We assume you already have it, if you don’t please install from the official website: http://metamask.io/ or follow this guide. Now let’s continue as you have Metamask installed in your browser.

Now you’re ready to interact with RSK. If you’re a developer, you will likely first want to test your dapps on the RSK testnet before deploying them on mainnet. You can connect to the RSK testnet using the following settings:

- Symbol: tRBTC

When you’re on the RSK Testnet, you can get tokens. These have no actual value, but allow you to test dapps properly. Get test RBTC.
