What is Blockchain Brawlers?
Blockchain Brawlers is a play-to-earn game where users can earn real money, just by getting into the digital ring and fighting an opponent.
It’s built on the WAX blockchain and the premise is very simple. Purchase a Brawler, equip it with some Gear, step into the Ring, and duke it out.
Rewards come in the form of digital tokens, which holders can exchange for fiat currency. As things stand, gameplay is very limited. Contests end the moment you click a button, and the result appears on the screen.
The outcome of a fight depends on the rarity of your Brawler: the rarer, the more chance you have of winning.
Who created the game?
WAX Game Studios developed Blockchain Brawlers. It’s the first game that comes directly from the blockchain company. Chief Gaming Officer Michael Rubinelli headed up the initiative. The 25-year gaming industry veteran was an influential figure in the free-to-play revolution.
Richard Garfield is also a big part of the development team. He’s a math professor and game designer, best known for Magic: The Gathering. He was brought in to make the player versus player element of the game as exciting and strategic as possible.
How do you start playing Blockchain Brawlers?
Firstly, you need to create a WAX wallet. You can use a WAX Cloud Wallet (WCW) or an Anchor Wallet.

What in-game NFT does the game have?
Blockchain Brawlers has three main in-game NFTs:
1. Brawlers
The Brawlers are the game’s main NFT. Without one, you cannot play. There are two ways to get a Brawler: you can either craft one or buy one on the secondary markets.
Brawlers come in five levels of rarity:
- Uncommon
- Epic
- Legendary
A Brawler’s strength comes from its rarity. So look out for the uncommon fighters if you want to reign supreme over the ring. But remember, the rarer a Brawler, the more expensive.
The rarest Brawlers are the ‘Founder’s Edition’ Legendary 1-of-1s. There are four editions of these: Standard, Hardcore, Cage Match and Death Match. You can play with them in-game but you’ll need to spend some money to acquire one: they’re on the open market for tens of thousands of dollars.
2. Rings
You also need a Ring NFT to engage in combat on Blockchain Brawlers. There are four levels of Ring:
- Common (Normal)
- Artifact (Backyard)
- Legendary (Deathmatch)
- Rare (Steel Cage)
The rarer the Ring, the better for your Brawler. If you equip a Legendary or Rare Ring, you can allow more than one Brawler to wrestle at the same time.
3. Gear
Gear also comes in the form of an NFT, but is not essential to compete in Blockchain Brawlers. Equipping your Brawler with Gear gives it extra power in a fight.
There are different types of Gear you can buy:
- Brass Knuckles
- Steel Chair
- Baseball Bat
- Sledge Hammer
- Trash Can
Gear enhances your ability to win fights and earn tokens.
Secondary marketplaces

Does Blockchain Brawlers have a token?
Blockchain Brawlers has its own in-game token, called BRWL. It achieved its all-time high price of $0.75 on April 1st, 2022. It’s now some way off this peak and you can see for yourself how much it’s worth now.
Users need BRWL for Crafting, which is Blockchain Brawlers’ term for creating new in-game assets.
Alongside BRWL, players also need Gold NFTs to Craft. In fact, Gold is the primary ingredient in Crafting, and is not easy to get hold of. You can trade, gift or sell Gold on the open market. You can also transfer it to the BNB Chain through the BINANCE x WAX bridge.
Players can win both Gold and BRWL when they beat their opponents. Higher rarity Brawlers win more rewards. Equipping Gear is another way to win more tokens.
What is Durability?
Durability in Blockchain Brawlers indicates how long a player can use an item before it is destroyed.
When your Gear NFT reaches zero, it will disappear from the game. When a player’s Ring reaches zero, you need to add more matches to it to make it usable again.
Durability is always represented as a fraction. So, if your Gear shows 150/200, this means you have 150 remaining uses, out of an original 200.
Closing words
Blockchain Brawlers is still under heavy development. The developers will add PvP matches and introduce mini-games later in 2022. Their development roadmap also moves into 2023, as the team will introduce female brawlers and more variety in the types of matches.
