Samsung Unveils Its Galaxy Note 20 and the Galaxy Z Fold 2, Shipments to Start by August 21

The South Korea tech giant Samsung has made some big announcements including Galaxy Note 20, Note 20 Ultra and Galaxy Z FOLD 2.

On Wednesday, August 5, South Korean tech giant Samsung Electronics Co Ltd (KRX: 005930) released a range of new smart devices including two Galaxy smartphones, a new smartwatch, and two tablets. The announcement comes as per Samsung’s usual timing of releasing new products in August.

Samsung unveils its two new ‘Note’ series handsets – Galaxy Note 20 and the Note 20 Ultra. As expected, both these high-end handsets feature-rich and powerful hardware. Both the smartphones come with Samsung’s native stylus called “S Pen”. The S Pen also gets new updates like increased responsiveness and precision. It also gets gesture controls for returning to the home screen or shooting screenshots.

Both the handsets offer support for 5G connectivity. While the 5G technology is currently in its nascent stage, the Note 20 users would still be able to leverage faster speeds 3-4 years from now. Coming to the size, both – the Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra are phablet smartphones sporting 6.7 inch and 6.9-inch displays, respectively.

On the other hand, Samsung has put a major focus on the camera with its premium handsets. The Galaxy Note 20 features a 64-megapixel wide lens with 30x zoom capabilities. While the Note 20 Ultra features a 108-megapixel camera with 50x zoom. Both these handsets allow shooting videos in 8K as well.

Both these premium handsets are powered by the Snapdragon 865+. The Galaxy Note 20 features 8GB RAM, 128 GB of storage, and 4300mAh battery capacity. The Note 20 Ultra comes with 12GB RAM, up to 512GB of storage, and 4500mAh battery.

As both are premium-range handsets, the Galaxy Note 20 starts at $999 going up to $1299 for the Note 20 Ultra which features topped-up specs. Pre-orders for these handsets have already started on August 2 i.e. today and shipments will happen by August 21.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2

Samsung aims to take its foldable series handsets to the next level. Having sold over 1 million units with its Galaxy Fold, Samsung now brings the Galaxy Z Fold 2. The second version brings improvements in terms of upgraded hinges, reinforced screens, and a larger front screen.

Along with the main foldable 7.6-inch screen, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 expands significantly to 6.2 inches. The smartphone will be available in two colors – Mystic Bronze and Mystic Black. In the official press release, Samsung wrote:

“After releasing two foldable devices and listening to user feedback on the most requested upgrades and new features, Samsung unveils the Galaxy Z Fold 2 with meaningful innovations that offer users enhanced refinements and unique foldable user experiences.”

Apart from the handsets, Samsung also unveiled two tablets – the Galaxy Tab S7 and the Galaxy Tab S7 Plus. These two handsets are powered by Google’s Android operating system and come with 5G connectivity support. The Galaxy Tab S7 hosts an 11-inch screen and the Galaxy Tab S7 Plus hosts a 12.4-inch screen.

Apart from it, the tech giant also unveiled its new Galaxy Watch 3 and Galaxy Buds Live headphones. The Galaxy Watch 3 features some ultra-smart features like detecting blood pressure. Though this is currently limited to South Korea where Samsung has received FDA approval.
