Monero (XMR/USD) released the GUI 0.17.3.1 ‘Oxygen Orion’, which is the v0.17.3.1 point release of their GUI software, they wrote on their blog. Highlights of the release include fix wizard password not resetting after wallet creation, minor bug fixes and UI improvements, fix startup crash on Apple Silicon, and translations updates. Contributors and use
5 people worked to make the release reality. Ultimately, they created 26 commits containing 1319 new lines of code. If you are on Windows, you must make sure that your antivirus does not block the program. Most antivirus programs flag the Monero GUI files as malware and quarantine them because the GUI software includes a miner.
The workaround
A workaround is available. You create a new folder or directory, open your AV software, and add an exception for the newly created folder or directory (whitelist it). Then, extract the .tar.bz2 file (in case of Linux or Mac) or the .zip file (in case of Windows) to the whitelisted folder or directory.
Windows Defender will probably be active as antivirus software if you’re on Windows and have not installed a custom antivirus program. You need to give permission to connect to the network via a pop-up the first time you start the wallet. Click on Allow Access after ticking the relevant boxes.
Choose a language
Choose a language from the list of available ones if you want to change the language and continue from the welcome screen. You can change the language by clicking on the flag in the upper left hand corner later.
Download hashes
Monero’s blog has a list of SHA256 hashes to use if you want to make sure you’ve downloaded the correct file. The GPG-signed hash list is available . It should be considered canonical with the relevant GPG key in the source code checked against the signature.
Make sure you check that your file hashes match the ones on the list signed to guarantee that the files you downloaded were originally posted by the maintainers. Also, check the validity of the signature on the list.
