Twitter May Introduce Bitcoin Payments as Part of Tip Jar Feature

A recent report suggests that social media giant, Twitter, is currently working on a feature that would allow users to tip content creators using Bitcoin. MacRumors reports that the most recent beta version of Twitter’s iOS app has lines of code that could be interpreted as Bitcoin becoming a part of Twitter’s “Tip Jar” feature.

Back in May, Twitter introduced Tip Jar to allow creators receive tips from users. The recent report aligns with CEO Jack Dorsey’s crypto sentiments which are always very positive towards Bitcoin.

In July, Jack Dorsey said that Bitcoin would become a big part of Twitter’s future. During the company’s second-quarter earnings call, Dorsey said that the king coin could be vital to transforming Twitter’s products and services.

If Twitter eventually rolls out Bitcoin Tip Jar payments, the cryptocurrency will be available for tipping along with Cash App, Venmo, and PayPal.

According to MacRumors, the new feature would use Bitcoin wallets and offer users a tutorial:

“Details in the latest Twitter beta indicate that users will be directed through a BItcoin tutorial that includes details on the Bitcoin Lightning Network and custodial and non-custodial Bitcoin wallets.”

It is currently unclear when this feature would be available to all users. At the moment, only the beta version may access Bitcoin Tip Jar.
